Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has suffered an injury that could force him to take a long break.

Camavinga injured his right knee ligament when he collided with forward Ousmane Dembele during a training session this Wednesday (15), while on International duty with France. Les Bleus is preparing for Friday’s (17) Euro 2024 qualifier against Gibraltar. Camavinga returned to Madrid to undergo medical checks.

Real Madrid released a statement confirming the injury, explaining that he had torn the lateral ligament. “After tests carried out on Eduardo Camavinga by Real Madrid’s medical team, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the external lateral ligament in his right knee. We are awaiting further developments”, said the statement. There is no time scale for his return.
Camavinga has recently signed a new contract with Real Madrid, that runs until June 2029. He has made 116 appearances for Los Blancos, since he joined the team from Rennes in August 2021. The midfielder also has a great collection of trophies, like the Champions League, Club World Cup, LaLiga, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup and Copa del Rey.
The midfielder becomes the fourth Real player to be sidelined with injury. On Thursday (16), winger Vinicius Jr. was forced off the field with a tight injury during Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Columbia. Defender Éder Militão and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois have both undergone surgery and are long-term absentees.
