Beatles release final song with Lennon’s voice and use of AI

Date:

The Beatles are back! “Now and Then”, the last song by the legendary English band, was released this Thursday (2).

To Know, the track was created with the help of Artificial Intelligence technology. “Now and Then” was primarily composed by John Lennon shortly before his death in 1980.

Therefore, in the following decade, Paul McCartney received a cassette tape from his former bandmate Yoko Ono’s widow containing a demo of the song.

Namely, the artificial intelligence was introduced to McCartney by director Peter Jackson (who worked with the surviving Beatles in the documentary Get Back), allowed the song to be finished. McCartney characterized “Now and Then” as “the final Beatles song”.

McCartney had already said in June this year that the group would release a song with the help of artificial intelligence to extract Lennon’s voice from a demo they worked on together.

“We were able to take John’s voice and make it pure through this AI. Then we could mix the recording as we normally would,” he said in an interview with the BBC’s “Today” program.

It’s worth remembering that the band also released a 12-minute behind-the-scenes documentary on their YouTube account, named “Now And Then – The last Beatles song”.

The short has comments by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, as well as recordings by Lennon.
