“It has come to my attention that @jon_wertheim posted, and has since deleted, quotes and opinions of mine regarding Martina Hingis and the Halep doping case. To be absolutely clear, these quotes were not mine, but rather taken from an Instagram account that pretended to be me and did not have the checkmark,” explained the tennis player.

The athlete continued to tell her story: “This is very frustrating because it could have been easily avoided by calling me or checking the authenticity of the Instagram accounts. I understand that mistakes can happen, but I just want to make it absolutely clear that these comments did not come from me. Have a great day”.
After the statement, journalist Jon Wertheim and Sports Illustrated acknowledged the error by publishing a note stating that they had made some mistakes in light of the news and said that he had contacted Caroline Wozniacki to apologize about the incident.
Simona Halep, mentioned in the article in September this year, was banned from professional sport for four years by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after committing two separate doping violations. In October 2022, the athlete was also suspended for eight months when she tested positive for the substance Roxadustat.
