The Public Ministry alleges that the Democratic president’s son allegedly committed tax evasion to support a lifestyle considered “extravagant”. On the other hand, Hunter defended himself during the trial, claiming that the accusations are driven by political motivations aimed at both him and his father. Additionally, the businessman is facing federal charges related to illegal gun possession in the state of Delaware.
In total, Hunter faces nine charges, all of which he pleaded not guilty to during the trial led by special prosecutor David Weiss. In addition, Hunter is also the target of two charges of false statements, since, when filling out the forms necessary to purchase the weapon, he mistakenly stated that he did not use illegal substances.
